In paving joints
Moisture retains particularly well between paving stones and provides an excellent breeding ground for weeds. Hot water penetrates deep into the joints and grabs the weeds directly at the root. Plant seeds are also destroyed.

Moss and lichen spread very quickly, especially on rough paving stones, due to the open-pored surface.

Gaps often form between pavements and kerbs, where dandelions in particular can spread almost unhindered. The areas are difficult to reach with garden tools and the growing roots make the gap bigger and bigger.
